Pieces of Advice I'm Glad I Didn't Take

Over my life, like many people, I have had others tell me how to live my life and what's best for me. Pieces of advice that have helped to avoid some terrible decisions but also some advice that I... well... quite frankly could have done without.

1. Go and get a real job
My dream has changed over the years but one thing that has always remained is that it had to be in the media industry. I don't know why I have always felt so strongly about working in the industry but now I can't imagine myself doing anything different so I know it is in my heart. However, it's an incredibly hard industry to get a job in so at times people told me to not bother, just get a job somewhere else. Something more reliable and secure. I completely ignored this and worked my socks off and now work in radio and its the best thing I've ever done.

2. Be More Realistic
I'm a big dreamer but personally, there's I believe I remain realistic but when people say this too me all I want to do is prove them wrong with anything. I say there was a specific moment when I'm glad I haven't taken this advice as I just never take it!

3. Just Accept It
If I know something is wrong I will stand my ground whatever it is. If I believe in something or someone I will make sure whatever it is happens. I am extremely strong willed so have never ever taken this piece of advice and don't think I ever will.

4. University Is The Only Option
This was pushed on to me in every area of my life but I was adamant I really didn't need or want to go and so far it has definitely worked out. I'm aware this isn't the case for everyone but it sure did teach me to do what made me happy and what I thought was right.

What pieces of advice are you glad you didn't take?

10 Ways To Reach Your Goals!*

Everyone has at least one goal. Whether you realise it or not, you’re always working towards something. For some, this will be to fall in love, get married, and raise a beautiful family. For others, this will be to follow a high-flying career and live big. For me its somewhere in between. It's easy to forget goals don't have to be career-related but also important to remember not to put pressure on your self to always achieve.

I am all for goals, they are there to make things happen. So instead of having dreams, you’re making a plan to be able to actually make those things a reality but there is a lot of work that has to go in most of the time.

1. Write Them Down

The best thing I find is to write goals down, that's why I started writing a monthly goal blog post. If you just keep them in your head you will be naturally less inclined to actually make them happen. I kind of forget about them where as written down I can refer back. So whether this is all about getting your own place, starting a business, traveling to a new country, buying yourself a bag, or whatever it is - write it down.

2. Get Into The Right Frame Of Mind

Then, you need to get yourself into the right frame of mind. It’s so important that you are positive, prepared, and ready to make this happen. A change in mindset will usually make you believe in yourself a little bit more. It's hard at first but definitely worth it.

3. Be Prepared

Align your goals with your actions. If you want to start a business, you need to make sure that you do exactly that. if you want to work out more, you need to actually be okay with exercising. If you have a goal and you don’t take steps towards it, you’ll never be able to accomplish it.

4. Create A Plan

Now, to make sure that you can actually do the above, it’s helpful for you to come up with a plan that you can follow. I find it so so much easier to get things done if I have manageable steps to complete first. I usually create a to-do list as ticking off the smaller parts gives me a constant feeling of accomplishment

5. Get Your Finances Together

This obviously depends on your goal but as much as we don't like it, money comes into most things. Because for starters, being financially secure is important. But secondly, having money to put towards your goals can help. If you’re struggling, debt consolidation loans could be useful. But you may just need to learn to budget better and start building some savings.

6. Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Another thing that helps me really push towards my goals, is to make sure that I'm getting out of your comfort zone. It’s easy to just stay in your safety zone. But if you want to make a change and reach a big goal, it can be scary. So put yourself out there and see what happens.

7. Network With Others

This is something I have learned to do a lot in the past year. When I started to network and meet new people, I got great advice and found out new opportunities that definitely helped me reach my goals.

8. Work Hard

However, you also need to make sure that you are working hard to actually bring your goals to fruition too. They just won’t happen otherwise. So don't’ be afraid of the work that this is going to take. Sure, at first, this may intimidate you. But, it’s something that you just have to do. This is why I suggest manageable steps as otherwise, it can be very daunting.

9. Put In The Time

Next, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re just allocating the right time. It’s so important that you’re able to work on your goals. Don’t let them fall to the bottom of your to-do pile. You need to make sure that you’re prioritizing time for the things you need to do. So work out how you can allocate your time and effort. I personally use a diary, the calender on my phone and a to-do list. That way I stay super duper organised.

10. Believe In Yourself

Believe in yourself. I can't say this enough. It's so important and not enough people appreciated it but believe that you can do this. Without the confidence behind it and a positive attitude, it will never become you.

August Goals

How is it already August?! We are more than halfway through the year which is crazy! I have had a strange month in terms of some moments being amazing and others being not so good. As usual, I have worked a lot but have learned to make the most of every moment. My grandad sadly went in and out of a hospital during the month which has been tough. I have also spent a lot of time with friends and have finally got back into my YouTube channel - I have filmed a few videos, the first one is up Friday and if you would like you can subscribe HERE (cheeky self-promo!)

1. Further my presenting career

As I started a new job this has took a serious step backwards, I was absolutely loving doing the odd presenting job and my regular show but I just couldn’t fit it in and didn’t prioritise it enough as it wasn’t progressing as fast as the other side of my career which made it slip but presenting was and is the thing I enjoy the most and want to progress.

2. Take some time off

As I sit here writing this, it is 10:48pm on a Saturday night which kind of proves the extent of my workload and I can finally say it has begun to catch up with me. I am so so tired and I really think it is time for a couple of days of completely chilling out. I think I 'm going to book a couple of trips with friends even if it's just for the day so I can rest and relax before going back to the daily grind!

3. Do things I enjoy

I really want August to be a month where I go and see amazing places and do some great things, spend time with family and friends and enjoy myself. I also want to start being a bit more selfish and doing what I want as I have found recently i have been people-pleasing way too much and it is negatively impacting me.

4. Reduce the unhealthy meals

With my busy schedule comes, eating on the go and therefore very unhealthy quick options which often comes as a McDonald's drive-thru. The day when I had 3 McDonalds was the point I questioned what was happening, It has also made me lack energy and feel incredibly off so throughout August, fast food is on a ban and I am going to try and eat a lot more home-cooked healthy dinners.

What are your goals for August?
