Late Night Thoughts #1 - How Things Change
I don't think I ever thought the world would be in the position it is in at the moment. I don't think any of us did. Would we ever have believed that in one single week every event, pub, cafe and school would be shut for the foreseeable? That we would be sent home from the office and virtual meetings would become the norm? Of course, we didn't. However, that is reality.
I will start by saying that there will be absolutely 0 opinions in this as I am not the government nor, a health professional, I am instead writing this because I feared without doing so I would be seen as ignorant. However, may I also say... Once this is written, I promise this blog will be escapism for you and me... the C-word will not be allowed.
Covid-19 has dramatically impacted my life. I work as an Event Manager, part of one of the most impacted industries throughout this whole thing. I'd be lying if I didn't say; I'm scared. I love working and this virus has made that impossible, with the future looking uncertain. I love socialising and love to be out and about which again are also two things strictly forbidden to keep not just me safe but everyone else. This year, I planned to travel. With two trips already booked and no longer can go ahead. Some of these things are insignificant in the grand scheme of problems but the disappointment of this and the negative ways it has already affected my mental health are very much there.
But the quicker we start socially distancing and self-isolating the quicker this horrible, horrible virus can disappear and we can finally get back in the beer gardens, jump on a plane and start living the life we love. Hopefully more grateful for this planet than we have ever been before.
Having said all of this, I have been trying to think of the positives of this situation, that I thought I would share. As I can't wait for this crisis to be a distant memory when all the children (and dogs) remember it as a time when families were together with nothing to do but play games, new businesses can begin as people have a moment to stop and think of a plan for their dreams, we grow as people learning a new skill and we can remember what's important.
So, in short, please stay safe, wash your hands and get ready to throw a massive party when this ends!
